The District was formed in 2017, and the City of Chillicothe joined in 2019. Prior to that, the department consisted of the Chillicothe Community Fire Department Inc., which was funded by subscriptions, and the City of Chillicothe Fire Department, which was funded by city tax dollars. The two departments functioned as one department out of four stations. The current Chillicothe Community Fire Protection District covers the City of Chillicothe, Mossville, Rome, and the Village of Hopewell.
